This year, University of Tehran is collaborating with Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) to organize a Persian information retrieval track in CLEF 2008. Database Research Group (DBRG) of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tehran will support the English-Persian/Persian-English cross language retrieval track of the CLEF2008 conference.
The Persian Ad Hoc track offers both mono and cross language information retrieval for this year. This competitive track is a good opportunity for researchers of Persian information retrieval community to share and raise their knowledge on Persian information retrieval.
Advantages:

- Evaluation of your team's retrieval models and methods in a well designed benchmark and among international teams from several universities.

Hamshahri is the largest Persian test collection that is prepared at DBRG of university of Tehran. This collection consists news texts from Hamshahri newspaper and contains 160,000+ news articles about a wide variety of subjects.
Hamshahri collection has 65 queries and their relevance judgments for top 100 retrieved documents (according to CLEF standards).

Bijankhan is a Persian tagged corpus that is prepared at DBRG and Linguistics Labs of University of Tehran. This collection is gathered form daily news and common texts. The Bijankhan corpus contains about 2.6 millions manually tagged words with a tag set that contains 40 Persian POS tags.

In order to participate in CLEF 2008 and have access to the test collections, a registration form and (for most tracks) a data release form must be first compiled, signed, and sent to CLEF organizers. On receipt of the forms, you will be sent information on how to download the data.
