History
According to the bylaws of the "Faculty of Engineering", the Industrial Chemical Engineering program was one of its initial five programs established in 1941. However, the first group of eight students graduated from this program in the academic year 1946-1947. The "Petroleum Refinery" program was later added to the existing programs of the Faculty of Engineering, and the first group of seven students graduated from this program in the academic year 1955-1956. The "Petroleum Engineering (Extraction)" program also graduated its first cohort in 1956-1957. However, later on, the programs of Petroleum Refinery, Petroleum Engineering, and Geology were removed, and all activities related to these programs were consolidated within the Chemical Engineering Department under the umbrella of the "Faculty of Engineering". The department aimed to educate professionals for the petroleum industry, chemical industries, and food industries. Students in this field used to graduate as master's degree holders by completing a five-year course. Later, the field of chemical engineering changed to a four-year undergraduate program, and the master's degree level became a separate stage with the implementation of a master's degree examination. Simultaneously with the restructuring of the "Faculty of Engineering" to the "College of Engineering" in 2005, it was renamed as the "School of Chemical Engineering" and underwent structural changes. Three majors in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering were established at the undergraduate level in this school. The School is currently located on the main Campus of the College of Engineering at the University of Tehran. It is worth mentioning that with the aim of training specialists in the field of cellulose industries and chemical processes, the Caspian Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1996 near the Chooka Wood and Paper Factory in Rezvanshahr, Gilan Province. Additionally, in 2005, the Fouman Technical College was established in Fouman city by the colleagues of the School of Chemical Engineering. |
