Mahmoud Reza Hashemi received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran. He pursued his Ph.D. degree at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is currently a tenured associate professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Tehran. Dr. Hashemi is the co-founder and director of the Multimedia Processing Laboratory (MPL). His research interests include Applied AI for multimedia systems and networks, cloud gaming, computer architecture, and security of information technology services.
The results of his research have led to more than 130 publications, over 51 researchers trained at the postdoctoral, PhD, Master’s, and research engineer levels.
He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), and a Guest Editor of a special issue of the IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing on Applied AI and ML for video coding and streaming. He has been a TPC member of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia, and ACM Multimedia Systems. He is a recipient of the ICME Quality Reviewer Award in 2011 and 2013.
He has been the Director of the Center for Information Technology and Cyberspace (CITC) of the University of Tehran from 2014 to 2019. CITC manages the university IT strategy, policies, infrastructure, and services.
Dr. Hashemi is a senior advisor in IT Governance and digital transformation for large enterprises and national and international bodies.
